Research Projects

Most research into drinking water quality and health is funded by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) as part of a research programme designed to meet the needs of the United Kingdom Government in formulating policy relating to the quality of public and private water supplies, and in imparting sound scientific input into European and world-wide debate on drinking water issues.

Executive summaries of the Water, Distribution, Conservation & Quality (WDCQ) research reports and earlier Department of the Environment drinking water reports are posted on the foundation for Water Research (FWR) website www.fwr.orgOpens in New window.

Research projects specifically related to drinking water are summarised in the Inspectorates Drinking Water Reports. More detailed information can be obtained from  DWI (England & Wales) Opens in New window website.
