Licensed Sites
The Land and Resource Management Unit of Environment and Heritage Service is responsible for the Regulation of Waste legislation and the implementation of waste management policy for the promotion of a sustainable approach to dealing with waste in Northern Ireland.
The maintenance of Public Registers containing certain prescribed particulars relating to waste management activities is required by law under Article 34 of The Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997.
Paragraph 26 of the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 and amendments also requires the Department to maintain and make available to members of the public prescribed information relating to-
- the producers and schemes registered in accordance with the Packaging Waste Regulations, and
- the reprocessors and exporters accredited by the Department in accordance with the Packaging Waste Regulations.
EHS is committed to conducting its business in as open and transparent a manner as possible, the maintenance of Public Registers assists in this goal.
