Peatlands Park

Last updated: 20 May 2010

picture of bog snorkelling promotion poster 2010Peatlands Park was specifically established to raise awareness of peatland habitat issues. The peat here has been forming for aound 10,000 years. There are over 16km of paths leading visitors through various habitats within the park.

The park is rich in insects, particularly butterflies, moths, dragonflies and damselflies and many woodland and wetland birds and various species of nest here. Badgers and hares are also present, while lizards and newts can be found in the open bog areas.

A short stroll around the Bog Garden will give you a chance to see almost all of the flora and fauna associated with this precious peatland habitat.

International Bog Day is coming up again.
