Advice for Owners of Listed Buildings

Architects from Environment and Heritage Service: Protecting Historic Buildings will be pleased to provide both historical information and technical advice to owners. These can include advice on the acceptability of proposed works and information on historically correct materials and detailing. This is an advisory service and it is recommended that where an owner proposes to carry out works, consultants experienced in this specialist area are employed. The Ulster Architectural Heritage Society's joint publication 'The Directory of Traditional Buildings Skills' available from the Society can act as a useful source.

If you are contemplating a scheme of works you should contact our offices to obtain a Schedule of Historic Building Requirements, which will detail the historic elements that require and the standards to which the work must be carried out. All the works scheduled need not necessarily be undertaken at one time.

A series of Technical Notes on common building elements such as thatch, mortars and fanlights has been prepared, and these are available to the public.
