Ongoing research projects

Most research into drinking water quality and health is funded by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

This research programme helps the United Kingdom government decide policy on the quality of public and private water supplies. It also contributes to the scientific input into the European and world-wide debate on drinking water issues.

Executive summaries of the Water, Distribution, Conservation & Quality (WDCQ) research reports and earlier Department of the Environment drinking water reports are posted on the foundation for Water Research (FWR) website (www.fwr.orgOpens in new window.).

Research projects related to drinking water are summarised in the Inspectorates Drinking Water Reports. More detailed information can be obtained from the DWI (England & Wales)Opens in new window. website.
