CEDaR Partnership
What is CEDaR?CEDaR, or the Centre for Environmental Data and Recording, is a unique partnership between the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, National Museums Northern Ireland and the Environmental Recording Community of Northern Ireland. It was first established in Jan 1995 and has evolved through various stages to the organisation we know today. Since 2004, CEDaR's work has been closely linked to the targets contained in the Northern Ireland Biodiversity Strategy. A review in 2008 has resulted in refinement of CEDaR aim and objectives for the 10 year period, 2009-2019.
CEDaR - Aims and Objectives Aims“To collect, collate, manage and disseminate robust (verified and validated) spatial datasets to facilitate biodiversity initiatives, (local, national and international).”
Objectives- Provide a customer-focussed record centre for NI spatial datasets
- Support the environmental recording community to ensure a flow of validated, fit-for-purpose data to the central databases and other dissemination portals
- To manage and maintain spatial data sets
- To manage and maintain existing and new web products for our customers
- To enable access to data (and information) by various audiences
- To undertake agreed actions in relation to legislative requirements
- To undertake an agreed number of appropriate interpretation initiatives in collaboration with the recording community and other partners
