Emissions Trading in Northern Ireland
Installations within Northern Ireland that are included in the scheme comprise the major power generation and industrial manufacturers, as well as any site with a thermal input capacity of over 20MWth (Megawatt thermal is the amount of thermal power or heat produced by a furnace or reactor).
This covers any site, whatever the operation; including some hospitals and universities.
If you think that your installation may be covered by Schedule 1 of the Regulations, please contact us on 028 9056 9296 or email emissions.trading@doeni.gov.uk
for an application form.
New Entrant Reserve (NER)
A certain number of allowances from the total allowance are now available from the NER which will be allocated free of charge to new entrants. Details on the type of new entrants eligible for the NER are available on the Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) website. Due to the limited size of the NER, applications will be considered in the order they are received.
If you wish to complete the form electronically, you can request a NER Permit Application Form by email
