Ervey Wood

Ervey Wood Country Park extends for over 1km on the northern side of the flanks and floor of the Burntollet Glen, with the Burntollet River running adjacent to its southern boundary. It includes two woodlands, Ervey wood and Tamnymore wood separated by the Crunkin burn. It covers an area of 20 hectares ( 50 acres) dominated by oak with a smattering of birch, hazel and beech.

Physical features include a number of small waterfalls and wet rock faces, as well as a series of high cliffs and a broad river flood plain.

Ervey Wood

With a wide range of wildlife and plant communities, Ervey Wood provides a pleasant walk in all seasons, although it is at its best in Spring with bluebell, wood sorrel and primrose providing a spectacular woodland carpet.

Badger

In Autumn it is the fungi that put on an attractive display with the wood woolly foot fungus, the red sickener and the yellow winter fungus to name but a few.

With its diverse vegetation cover the country park provides habitat for many species of wildlife i.e. badgers, foxes, red squirrel, wood mice and many woodland birds, with buzzards often seen circling effortlessly high over the trees.

Due to its diversity of plant communities and woodland character and its richness in plant species, Ervey Wood Country Park makes up part of Ervey Wood ASSI (Area of Special Scientific Interest).

The Park is owned and managed by Northern Ireland Environment Agency, which has responsibility for countryside and wildlife conservation and ensuring access to the countryside.
