Fergus' Nature Diary
The Fergus Nature Diary Activity Book ( pdf - 2.8 MB )
is suitable for KS1&2 children. It encourages them to think about the seasons at Crawfordsburn Country Park and the different habitats they find there. They are introduced to the habitat of the woodland, seashore and pond, what food is available, the wildlife that lives there, and the life cycles of the plants and animals over the course of the year. It can be used as an introduction to food chains and habitats.
Red Squirrels in Northern Ireland
The Red Squirrel Education Pack for KS2 pupils illustrates the pressures that much of our wildlife face as a result of human activities, through the example of the red squirrel.
The pack is aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, with a wide range of activities linked to the following curriculum subjects: English, history, mathematics, geography, art, drama, PE and especially science. Some of the activities are classroom based, while others require an outdoor setting. Many of the exercises will be equally valuable for Key Stage 3 pupils.
Teachers may take up this project as a result of a chance encounter with squirrels either by themselves, or by their pupils. However, even without direct contact, red squirrels are an interesting subject for study. The pack also promotes respect for all living things and helps raise awareness of the need for us to preserve local biodiversity.

Woodland Habitat Studies: Roe Valley Country Park - Teachers Resources
The Woodland Habitats Teachers Resources Book is designed as follow-up material after a visit to a woodland, specifically Roe Valley Country Park. The booklet has been designed as reading material for children at upper primary and lower secondary level. Some of the concepts discussed would not normally be tackled until later in the secondary school curriculum. They are included here for the sake of completeness and in an effort to make the booklet a useful introduction to those students doing GCSE.
