DOE has published a consultation document seeking views on the draft End of Life Vehicles Regulations 2003.
A spokesperson explained:
The End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive (2000/53/EC) is an environmental EC Directive aimed at reducing the amount of waste arising from scrapped vehicles. In particular, it sets targets for the reuse, recycling and recovery of materials and components.
Manufacturers will be required to design vehicles with reuse and recyclibility in mind and to set up collection and dismantling systems under standards this Directive will set for dismantlers and scrap metal recyclers.
It is proposed to make the Regulations which will implement certain Articles of the ELV Directive on a UK wide basis later this year.
