Environment & Heritage Service is concerned with the protection of historic monuments through the scheduling process. We work in partnership with private landowners to protect and manage a representative sample of site types throughout Northern Ireland. The primary aim is to safeguard the scientific information within them.

Treasure Hunting

Searching generally anywhere for archaeological objects is illegal under the new legislation in the Treasure Act and it is an offence to use and/or be in possession of a metal detector on a scheduled historic monument.
