Ramsar Sites
The Ramsar Convention's
mission is "the conservation and wise use of all wetlands through local, regional and national actions and international cooperation, as a contribution towards achieving sustainable development throughout the world".
The convention covers all aspects of wetland conservation and wise use, recognizing wetlands as ecosystems that are extremely important for biodiversity conservation in general and for the well-being of human communities.
There are currently 21 Ramsar sites designated in Northern Ireland and 16 of them are featured on the map below.
Pass the cursor over one of the red dots and the site name will appear. Always keep the top of the map in view, otherwise the site names will not appear. To find out details about each site, click on the red dot.
